As a kid I used to play in my room for hours. While away at camp my sister and my best friend painted clouds on my ceiling as a surprise. It made the room unique and made it mine. When I put down our Ring around the Rosie rug for my 3 year old Jack, I saw the same excitement in him as I had when I arrived home from camp that year. He lined up all his blue cars on the blue letters, his red cars on the red and so on. His room is no longer a place I decorated, but a place where he is excited to live in, play in and a place that has ignited his imagination. Perhaps we let our children be a part of the decorating process? Perhaps we let them choose their beautiful rug and decorate the room around this piece. After all, this rug is where they will lay and read books, sit and do puzzles and maybe even stare up at the clouds.
